Is the Lanzarote Submarine Worth It?

Is the Lanzarote submarine worth it? Rated 4.6 from 1,573 reviews: who comes away pleased, who should book a dive or snorkel instead, claustrophobia and seasickness (Oct 2026).

Updated October 2026

The Lanzarote submarine is worth it for anyone who wants to see the seabed and cannot or would rather not dive: families with young children, grandparents, non-swimmers, pregnant women and people with ear or heart problems. It is rated 4.6 from 1,573 reviews on GetYourGuide and costs from US$72 a person (checked October 2026). If you can swim and you are 8 or over, a first scuba dive puts you in the water with the fish, which no window can match.

Who comes away pleased

  • Families with young children. From the age of 2, the submarine is the only way for a small child to go below the surface in Lanzarote; every try dive and the underwater walk start at 8 or older.
  • People who do not swim or do not dive. You sit in a dry cabin, at surface pressure, with an audio guide; nothing is asked of you except climbing two short ladders.
  • Pregnant women, and people with ear or heart problems. The cabin pressure does not change on the way down, so the dive does not affect them; a try dive is closed to all three.
  • Anyone who gets seasick. The submarine travels below the waves and does not rock like a boat, so motion sickness is very unlikely.
  • A short morning out. About 50 minutes under the water, an hour on board, and a free bus from Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen or Costa Teguise.

Who should book something else

  • Confident swimmers who want to be in the water. A window keeps the sea at arm’s length. A first scuba dive, two divers to an instructor, starts from US$83; scuba diving in Lanzarote for beginners compares them.
  • Wheelchair users and anyone who cannot climb a ladder unaided. Boarding is through a hatch, down two short vertical ladders, so wheelchairs and mobility scooters cannot go on board.
  • Anyone hoping for a particular animal. The fish are wild, so no sighting is promised; you see what swims past the window that day.

Is it claustrophobic?

Less than most people expect. The cabin is about the size of the inside of a bus, air-conditioned and light, with an aisle like an aircraft’s and 22 large windows for its 44 seats; most passengers relax once they are seated. The tighter moment is getting in: you go through the hatch and down two short ladders. If small spaces are a real fear, a snorkel trip keeps you in open water under the sky: the guided snorkel from Playa Chica in Puerto del Carmen runs US$61, wetsuit included.

What the rating tells you

The submarine’s 4.6 comes from 1,573 reviews of a dive that runs up to seven times a day, six days a week. The beginner dives score higher, Barracuda’s 5.0 from 446 reviews for one, but on fewer reviews and for an activity open only to swimmers of 8 and over. Read the two scores as answers to different questions: the submarine’s says that a dry dive for all ages does what it promises; the dives’ say that people who wanted to get wet were glad they did.
