The Lanzarote Submarine with Children

Who can go on the Lanzarote submarine: children from 2 (under-2s cannot dive), the child fare, pregnancy and ear problems, the two boarding ladders and wheelchair access (Oct 2026).

Updated October 2026

Children can go on the Lanzarote submarine from the age of 2; under-2s cannot dive, because of the safety equipment on board. Because the cabin stays at surface pressure, pregnant women and people with heart or ear problems can go too. The one hard limit is getting in: everyone boards through a hatch, down two short vertical ladders, and must climb them unaided, so wheelchairs and mobility scooters cannot go on board. The dive costs from US$72 a person (checked October 2026), and children of 2 to 14 pay a child fare.

Ages, at a glance

Age limits from the GetYourGuide listings, read on 28 October 2026.

For children of 2 to 4, then, the submarine is the only way below the surface; from 5 a kayak trip to the Papagayo beaches adds a swim with a snorkel, and from 8 a first scuba dive becomes possible.

  • The ladders. Two short vertical ladders lead down through the hatch. Everyone has to manage them, so think about whether your child will climb down calmly.
  • Length. About 50 minutes under the water, an hour on board, which suits short attention spans better than a half-day boat trip.
  • Ears. The cabin pressure does not change, so there is no ear popping on the way down.
  • Keepsakes. Each passenger is given a dive certificate and a fish chart, which children can use to tick off what they see.
  • Food. Nothing is served on board; the office in the marina sells drinks and snacks before and after.

Pregnancy, heart and ear conditions

The cabin is kept at normal atmospheric pressure throughout the dive, so the dive does not affect pregnancy, heart conditions or ear problems. That is the decisive difference from every try dive and the underwater walk on the island: all of them are closed to pregnant women, and the dives to people with some medical conditions too (each listing names them).

Wheelchairs and limited mobility

The submarine is not wheelchair accessible. Boarding and leaving are by the two ladders through the hatch, which you have to climb without help, and wheelchairs and mobility scooters cannot be taken on board. The Sea Trek walk is not suitable for people with limited mobility either, and neither the Museo Atlántico dive nor the whale and dolphin catamaran that also leaves from Puerto Calero is suitable for wheelchair users.
